Subject: first hd access lasts about 20 sec
Hi,

I still use an older pc with 2 hd's and win 98 2nd.
The first disk 10 GB the second 30 GB.
Both hooked to the same ide controller.
Worked fine for about 2 years.

But now:
There are no problems with the first disk,
but when I try to access one of the two
partitions on the second drive,
(2*15 GB, both filled 60%)
I can see all root entries immedeately,
but then the pc "freezes" and it lasts up to
20 - 30 sec. untill I can see the files in a
subdirectory.
Once through this procedure I will have instant access
to any directory on the hd.
After a while of not accessing the drive, this behavior repeats.

There are no energy drive shut downs allowed!
DMA mode is enabled for both drives, but
would not effect the problem.

Any idea?

Wolfgang
