I want to test with a sniffer what goes on before the router of my PC which
is connected to the Internet via a router(between the modem and the router).
I thought to connect both i.e the router and the modem to a hub, and to
connect to the same hub an extra PC running a sinffer - for this test.
Would it work?
What address should I give the the extra PC: Do I have to get an addres from
my ISP?
Thanks
Mayer

Yes. Run the sniffer in promiscuous mode.

Whatever you want to give it.

No.

Dear Mr. Lebeau,
The idea of sniffing beyond may NAT router seems great and I want to use it
also.
Problem is that I can't bey a hub any more - only a switch.
Would it work also this way?
Regards
Ronny

If it is a switch the only thing your sniffer will see are the broad/
multicast packets of the other machine.

It needs to be a Hub.
