One User cant connect to network resource

One of my users(Win2KPro Client) cannot connect to one of the servers
(WinNT4) we have here.

He cannot connect via IP address or server name.
i.e.: \\server-name or \\10.1.0.5

he can connect to other servers on the same subnet as the server he cannot
connect to.

Others on the network can connect to the server just fine.

How can I go about finding out why this one users is having issues?

The user can ping the servers.

A new bit of info, It seems that he just cant connect to WinNT servers.
Win2K Servers are fine.

We have not tried his PC with a different user yet.

1. can the user ping NT server name? try use net view \\nt4name, what do you
get?
2. Since this is NT server, check the WINS settings. if you don't have WINS,
make sure netbios over tcp/ip is enabled on w2k.

Would WINS matter if they try to connect to \\<ipaddress_of_server> ??

Or you talking about the server? The Client is Win2KPro, the server that
the client is trying to get to is NT. The server seems to work fine for
everyone else.

I'll double check the server settings when I get into the office tomorrow.

At the Command prompt see if the user can connect to the
server in question
net use X: \\severname\sharename
password /user:domainname\username

This command usually works when you get this message "no
logon server available"

I have one remote W2K sever that I have to use this
command to map a drive for a share on it. The problem is a
NT 4.0 Server, W2K Severs do not have the problem with the
W2K Server that NT 4.0 has.

1. if you can ping ip but not name, this is name resolution issue. check the
wins settings or enable netbios over tcp/ip on w2k.
2. also check event viewer to find any errors. it could be browser issue.
