I am having some troubble with my newly created child domain, mabey
someone could lend me a hand?
My current company 'mycompany.com' has 3 DC's all with AD intergrated
DNS.
I have created a child domain 'remote.mycompany.com' and created a AD
intergrated DNS on it, also named 'remote.mycompany.com'.
when i look on the parent domain in DNS i can see 'remote' sitting
underneath 'mycompay.com' but none of the records that are on the
'remote.mycompay.com' DNS server are there -- thus i cannot ping any
of the computers in the child domain by name (i can ping by IP).
On the child domain i can ping computers on the child domin and the
parent without a problem, i just can't seem to go the other way.

Sorry if this doesnt make much sence, ive been hacking at this for 14
hours now and may be going nuts :-/ I will clairify if you have any
questions in the morning.
Thanks!

On the tree root domain "mycompany.com", you need to create a delegation to
the NS for remote.mycompany.com. Did you do that or just create a
subdomain?

Oh ya, one more thing.
If i create an A record on the parent DNS server under 'remote' (eg.
server1.remote.mycompany.com), it will then allow computers in the
parent domain to ping the child domain by name.
not suer if this helps at all.

Just delete the child domain on the parent and follow the directions in
Q255248.

I have sort of the same problem. We have a Parent Domain
Holt.Com and a child texas.holt.com and in my Parent DNS
I have Holt.Com and a deligation that shows up grey that
refers all requests for texas.holt.com to the Primary DC
for Texas.Holt.Com. This works well. But, on my Child
domain(Where my users are), they cannot ping anything in
the Parent DNS zone(ie. server.holt.com) does not resolve
from my child domain pc's. But, anything like
server.texas.holt.com all work just fine. I would think
this should have been AD integrated... but, apparently I
need to do some sort of reverse Deligation. Anyone help??

Not a reverse delegation, but a forwarder back to the parent DNS. This will
also facilitate Internet name resolution, that is if the parent DNS is
forwarding to the Internet (hopefully assuming that you are not using any
ISP DNS servers in any of your internal machines, which we all know can
cause issues).

If you have multiple child domains, the solution for that is to use
secondaries of each child into the other child domains and vice-versa.

Hope that helps out.

Cheers!
