I am having problems getting by label with an archive that
has been through several years of reorganization. This is
a problem even with new labels that have just been
applied. Running Analyze does not reveal any problems. It
appears that due to some prior operations, the archive is
in some strange state with respect to labels for certain
projects. I have decided to start fresh with the current
versions of all files, and can't seem to find a way to
easily do this. What is the easiest way to migrate just
the latest versions to a new archive? Or to remove all
the history from the archive? (I am trying to avoid
manually creating a new database from the source files
since there are shared files in the current archive that
we need to keep.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You could try the archive utility (from the ssadmin tool or the
command line -- ssarc). It has an option for deleting old versions.

Also, to try to keep your history, you might call Microsoft Product
Support for help.
