As my hard drive is filling up, I checked for temporary files I could
delete, and i bumped into this C:\WINDOWS\Installer folder : 2.6Gb !
After some research, I found that this folder is rather mysterious and
should be left untouched as nobody is really sure what is in there. In
fact it seems that the usefulness of theses files (290 in my case) is
very application dependent.
So I checked and found 2 files taking 450Mb each (481698f.msp and
b92c2.msp, must be generated temporary names), that have the same
properties summarized here :
Title : 893
Subject : Microsoft Visual Studio .NET
Revision number : {673539D1-18E1-4B9D-B2C7-A4A547688B89}
I am pretty sure that they are related to my installation of the
Service Pack 1 for VS2005 (had to install it twice, as my computer
crashed in the middle of the first install).
My question is simple : is it safe to delete these files ? I run
Windows XP Pro.

Same question for these files.

Perfect, neat and concise. Thanks.
Looks like there is something inherently wrong in the patch mechanism
provided by Windows Installer (2 Gb of backup files for a patch ?). From
now on, I'll be warned...
