I installed VMAdditions and many features are functioning (i.e. manual
resize window by dragging edges, moving mouse in/out of Virtual PC), several
critical features ARE NOT functioning (i.e. settings doesn't recognize that
Virtual machine Additions is installed, therefore not allowing
settings-Display changes, nor Shared Folders, etc.)
Also: when the Virtual PC starts up, a pop-up displays: "vmusrvc.exe - Entry
Point Not Found; The procedure entry point RegisterCallback cound not be
located in the dynamic link library vmsrvc.dll"
I've tried several ways of uninstalling and re-installing ... but the same
symptoms remain.
Help!
The VPC 2007 SP1 virtual machine additions ARE compatible with XP Home. XP
Home is not a supported guest but that does not mean it does not run fine.
Not supported means that MS does not provide phone or email support when
Home (XP or Vista) editions are used as a host or guest in VPC.
If you have mouse integration the vm additions are functioning. You can
enable shared folders by clicking on the folder icon at the bottom of the VM
window and browsing to the folder on the host you wish to share.
What did you try to uninstall that you describe as "several ways of
uninstalling and re-installing"?
Uninstall the vm additions and see if the popup message continues to appear
when you start the vm.
Since you are using an XP upgrade cd consider not installing Win98. Instead
start a new vm with the XP cd and supply the Win98 cd when XP Setup requests
verification of Windows media eligible for upgrade to XP (aka the "shiny
media check".
The only KB article I could find that mentions vmusrvc.exe is the following,
but it applies to Virtual Server. Do you also have VS installed? Even if
you don't you might want to review the article anyway.
