This concerns me as well. What the hell is MS trying to do, lock out all
mISV development once and for all? From what I've seen, VS 2010 is slated
to be ridiculously expensive. Guess I'll be continuing on with VS 2005.
The free, "express" versions are useless to me and my small MFC shop.

You can have the Express edition(s) at no cost to you, so I don't see why
you should be upset.
Enjoy this for the new year and get the RTM when it becomes available, The
Express edition will still be free.

I'm pretty sure Express doesn't include MFC support, a necessity for a

Yes, you are right the Express versions can't use MFC. There used to be a
low(er) cost Standard edition which did, but that is gone from VS2010. I
would suggest looking into both the Microsoft Empower and BizSpark programs
which give you many benefits including low cost access to Visual Studio, in
exchange for developing and publishing an application:

Because, as he mentions in his post, he uses MFC, which the express
editions don't support.

That was my impression. "Standard" has given way to "Professional" at the
low end, then what used to be "Professional" becomes "Premium"...
