Hi.

I'm just starting a project involving Oracle and VB5. I think it's Oracle
7.3.

With the proliferation of ODBC drivers around, does anybody have any
suggestions what driver/version to use and from which source (Microsoft?
Oracle? Intersolv?).

I guess we will be using RDO as the data access method.

Thanks.

Hi Alastair
I evaluated a number of ODBC drivers and found MS 2.73 to be fairly
reliable and very quick. However, I ended up using Oracle Objects 2.2,
which interface directly to the SQL*Net OCI and therefore does not
need ODBC at all.

regards

Matt

You could try our ODBC driver: SCO SQL-Retriever: Windows-Oracle 7 on
various types of Unix. Take a look at
http://www.sco.com/vision/products/sqlretriever/ for more information
and a downloadable eval.

As you are using rdo data access... it's best that you use the
microsoft driver for oracle. You can get the latest version at
http://www.microsoft.com/data

I have been hitting against an Oracle 8 database for about 6 months
now and would recommend the Microsoft 2.73 driver. I would also
recommend using ADO over RDO (ADO is the way Microsoft is pushing).
I would also recommend taking advantage of connection pooling.
