I've just upgraded to Money '03 and am now experincing
crashing when using the programme. I have all the current
patches and service packs, and have installed it over an
earlier version, to a seperate directory. Uninstalled,
reinstalled, changed directory names, re-entered date to a
new account, imported date and Installed Money to a clean
system build. Everything I can think of short of throwing
it out.
The problem is the I can perform a number of actions then
the programme crashes, error report kicks in, restarts the
programme which then crashes out. On a number of
occations it blues screens then reboots the computer.
Prior to Money 2003 I'd had a stable and working system
and had only seen 2 blue screens since switching to W2k.
I've had 15 in the last week, all when using Money 2003.

So I'm reaching the point of thinking should I've gone to
Quicken?

Any Help would be helpful!

I have a similar problem with Money 2002 (came pre-
installed with my laptop). Every time I click on an
account I have denominated in Euros, Money crashes. Seems
strange coz it works fine rest of the time. HELP!

What error messages are you seeing, as they can point to where the problem
is?

System doesn't generate any of the usual error code, as
they are caught by
IE/Money error handling, but these indicate an access
violation, then lists
almost every modual running on my system at the time. So
some where out
there is a number of reports generated by my copy of Money
2003!

As a side bar, I've reinstalled Money to a clean system,
again, however,
this time I've taken the step of installing the version of
IE6 shipped with
money. It's been installed after W2K SP4 and patches. I'm
currently working
though the additions of IE6 service pack, DirectX9 & Media
Player 9.

I get the feeling that for some reason Money 2003 did not
like being
installed AFTER IE6 Service pack and patches, as it
generated a whole host
of files not found before it died. However it did restart
but still
generated a missing files list, before running after
acceptance of the
error. Go figure! After that failure, and drive format
number 2 of the day,
I'm now at the stage above, gradual installs, backup and
install and all
appears, so far, sound.

With regard to a error log, I had thought I'd copied the
Dr Watson log over
to my backup drive, but it would appear I've only taken a
shortcut over. If
there are any more errors I'll post them.

Given that Windows 2000 SP4 only has been out a few days, I don't know
whether something in that would conflict or not.

Try uninstalling Money again, and reinstalling. Use Administrator as the
account to install and try running it from that account straight after
rebooting after the install. If the install fails in any way, then this is
important as it could mean unregistered files.

Have you tried the same money file on another machine, or the sample file on
the first machine?

I have a virtually identical problem, it happens in various places, opening
bills, entering bills, entering my password to log in. Apparently at
random. I had similar issues with 2001 as well.

Have you tried a repair on the file or creating a new one?

Going to try Insalling to a clean system, so reformating
all three of my drive. Double checking every conection

Any jobs as a hardware tester required? :>

Do you get a message box pop up saying an error? What's the exact error you
get in there?? Have you tried the sample file?

Glyn,
Apologies for the delay in replying. Just finished
rebuilding my system from scratch. Total clean build with
no data on any disk. Took me a day just to backup.

I did get a few error messages from Money, something the
MSN error handler passed up.
These were:
HRESULT = 0x800a138a & 0x80004005, together with a message
box saying:
R6025 = Pure virtual function call (C++ Runtime library)

At the time of the error the only software, aside from the
OS and drivers that was installed was Money 2003.

I've have also a support call with the Microsoft EMEA team
in the UK, and have received a suggested patch to the
registry :

HKCurrentUser\Software\Microsoft\Money\11.0
New DWORD: DeleteLifeTimePlan, Value set to 1.

This seams to be working and I've not experienced any
crashes. The R6025 is the puzzle, as it suggested that
this may be a spyware application. If so then it's a
Microsoft application as nothing else is running that's
able to send any information.

If there's any more information I can furnish, please let
me know.

Regard,

Phil

There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Somewhere!

Try this KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;240437

I also have this idea in my head that I've read this can happen when you
install some sort of debugging or Visual Studio type application (but as you
say, its a clean system).

The registry patch you mention resets the planners, which is one I
occasionally publish on these groups
