I am based in the UK. I have been using MS Money for more years than I
care to remember, but the version I have been using for the last 6
years has been Money 2002 Personal + Business edition.

I just upgraded my laptop (to run Vista Business) and thought it might
be a good idea to bring all my software up to date also. Had a hunt
for Money in some UK retailers, and was surprised to find absolutely
nothing. Looked on Microsoft's site and, sure enough, there was Money
2008 looking wizzier than ever.

So what gives? Is Money now a US-only product? If so: (a) will Money
2008 be good to work in the UK? (presumably things like tax
calculations are completely different, so I would assume not) (b) what
is the latest version that *is* good for the UK? and (c) are there any
plans to produce future versions of a UK-flavoured Money?

I have one other question, should I expect to have any issues
importing my current Money datafile into <<whatever the most recent
software I can buy>>? What about custom business form templates?

TIA, Pete

Stay where you are with UK Money 2002 Personal & Business.

The newest packaging might look wizzier but the product has got
progressively worse.

All this IMHO

There are a number of points - Money 2008 is a US application that would not
upgrade your Money 2002 files and which has no connections to UK banks. The
latest UK Money is 2005 but 2004 is a better application [in my opinion] and
both work with Vista Business.

Neither program is available for retail any more but you should be able to
find 2004 or 2005 on E-Bay.

If you are happy with 2002, why change? 2002 was the latest version to
include Personal+Business.

This is also a query from the UK from someone who has been using Money for
some time and wants to continue doings so. My current version of Money is
from an OEM version of MS Works 2004. I went to purchase an updated version
of Money for the new PC but the MS UK website seems to pretend it doesn't
exist. The only one I can find is a 2004 or 2005 version from Amazon for
c£90!! - some four times the sale price of the original version.

What MS playing at, and what are my options - license wise can I transfer
the OEM version to a new PC and, if so will 2004 Money function in a Vista OS?

Appreciate some help please.

Hi Peter,

Licenses for OEM software are associated with the hardware on which it is
loaded. Modification of the hardware is condoned but changing everything
except the power cable would seem to miss 'the spirit' of the concession.

AFAIK your old software will run with the new Operating System.

That's not an amazon supplied item but a 3rd party. Have a look on eBay.
There's copies at around the £40 mark.

Legally you can't move an OEM version to another PC. The licence is tied to
the original hardware.

Arguably, since M$ have abandoned this market, they will not be worried
about you reusing your old copy of Money on your new PC?

Dreamer.

The only thing that motivates M$ is money. Whether they choose to sue, for
breach of contract, is their business.

There is presently a copy of money 2005 on ebay for £1.04 with 3 days to
run.
This will work perfectly with vista.

I agree - stick with the 2002 version. I have it working on Vista Business -
no problems. It's still the best version for a small business.

Only issue I cannot resolve is updating the share prices as Money points you
towards S&P's comstock site which is now defunct.

Has anyone got a work around for this problem? I need to update Santander
Bank share prices daily.
