Sql Server 2008

I have installed SQL server standard edition 2008 SP1 from a CD on a new
computer with Server 2003 SP2. When I start the SQL Server Installation
Center and try to add a new SQL server stand alone installation, I get a
browse for folder pop up window. I have tried select the CD drive where the
installation disc resides and diferent SQL folders on the C drive but none of
them work. Has anyone had this issue and what needs to be done to resolve the
problem?

I tried it, and I select the x86 folder that seems to work. At least I came
to the Setup Support Rules screen.

Which folder do you select?

Yes, I selected the x86 folder on the CD but it does not like this selection.
It states that this is not an installation directory.

What happens if you skip the SQL Server Installation Centre, and instead
start the main Setup exe on the CD?

This is the file name from the CD SQLServer2008SP1-KB968369-x86-ENU if I open
this file it installs SQL 2008. There are no other EXE files on the CD.

Well, if you have that file on the CD, it is definitely not an install
disk for SQL 2008 RTM. No wonder that SQL Server Installation Centre
does not want to use it.

And from the name, I would not expect to get an new installation of SQL
2008, but well an upgrade to SP1.

No, I think it is a file to upgrade from the RTM version of SQL 2008 to
Service Pack1 of the same.
