I am just a lonely System Admin but have a question on status lights on SQL
2K in my Win2K3 AD environment...
I have 2 domains in my environment.
If I register a SQLSVR using " the name of the server" to connect to
another SQLSVR in the same domain, SQL automatically connects to the other
server, no problem.
If I register a SQLSVR using a name to connect to another SQLSVR in a
different domain, SQL DOES NOT automatically connects.
If I register a SQLSVR using " the ip address" to connect to another SQLSVR
in the same/different domain, SQL automatically connects.
I can ping servers by name between domains no problem.

Why can't I automatically connect to a server in the different domain using
the servers name...????

Here is the weird part... If I make all the SQL Servers in both domains
Domain Controllers, they automatically connect fine...

HELP... I don't want Domain controllers everywhere.

Thanks, Tom...

Have you tried connecting by using a fully qualified domain name (FQDN),
like:
accounting.chicago.adventureworks.com
To get the FQDN, on the Start Menu, right-click My Computer, and then click
Properties. On the Computer Name tab, see the Full Computer Name value.
