Hi,

We have an existing production clustered SQL server with a default instance
and a named instance. I need to configure Reporting services on the named
instance but am getting the error "Existing cluster or cluster prepared
instance failed".

Has anyone installed RS on a SQL cluster, can you please give me some steps?

It is not a good idea to install RS on a cluster. In fact, it is a very bad
idea.

You cannot install a clustered RS instance, you have to install each node
independently.

Thanks Geoff.

How would i go about installing it on each node independently.
And what's the downside to installing on a RS cluster? I realize that it
doesnt automatically failover but if i have the RS dbs on the SAN and the
cluster name points to the instance, why doesnt this work?

I am a newbie in RS and trying to understand, hence the questions.

-Thanks
Sheethal

RS on a cluster is not supported. if you call MS for support they will
probably tell you to uninstall it.

you'll need to install RS on a separate server and keep the RS
databases on the clustered SQL server. caveat is RS will need to run
the enterprise version of SQL. it's called a scale out configuration
and the details are in BOL
