Hello,

Can a SQL 2008 R2 box be joined to an existing SQL 2008 cluster that's not
running R2? If so, are there any known issues?

My understanding with clustering is that the versions of the boxes need to
match, especially when it comes to things like installing patches.
Therefore, to my knowledge, the above is not possible.

Thanks,
Rubens

No you can't mix versions when clustering. When you run the set-up to add
the 2K8 node to the existing 2K8R2 cluster, it will error because the
existing cluster will be version 10.5 and your are trying to add a 10.0
system.
