Hi All,

I have an old machine running SQL 2000 that has
approximately 50+ registered servers within Enterprise
Manager. I am trying to find out if there is a way that I
can move these registered servers from my old computer's
EM configuration to my new server's EM configuration. I
know that there is a registry key that lists all
Enterprise Manager groups and registered servers
(HK_USERS\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\MICROSOFT SQL SERVER\80
\TOOLS\SQLEW\Registered Servers X\ with all of my SQL
servers listed. When I add this registry branch to my new
machine I see the SQL Server Groups in Enterprise Manager,
but no servers are listed underneath. Does anyone know of
a reliable way of moving these registration components
from my old machine to my new machine, without having to
re-register all of the servers?

Thanks in advance for your help!
Dave

You need to export the registry key to a registry file from
regedit. You can then use regedit to import the file into
the registry on your new PC.

I actually did export the registry key from the old
machine and imported it into the new machine. The import
went fine and on the new machine I do see the individual
registered server listed within the key. When I go into
EM on the new machine, I see the SQL groups (from the old
machine that were added to the registry), but then do not
have any servers listed within the groups.

I just noticed one thing you posted - you indicated you used
HKEY_USERS. It should be HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Other than that,
you can check the reg file for the server entries to make
sure it's exporting correctly.
