Whoever is in charge of this function at MS needs to be fired. I'm sending
Bill and Steve a message - this is more stupid than is tolerable.

Multiple language version of .Net Framework can be installed on an English
OS. This allows you to possibly create .Net Framework applications for
other languages (like Japanese) without the need to do it on a machine
running a Japanese OS. Now, if you install the Japanese version of .Net
Framework on an English OS, then the .Net Framework SP (which is considered
a "critical" patch) is also applicable to your English OS. That's why you
get multiple language versions of the .Net Framework SP even though you only
sync English content.
That's the "bad" news. The good news is that in the next version of SUS you
will have the capability of selecting exactly what updates you want to sync,
and only those updates are downloaded and stored on the SUS server. We
realized that there was a need to provide for sync filtering in the next
version, but the outcries about the .Net Framework service packs has made
that feature even more needed.

It's also good to see that we're finally smart enough to know what our
servers and desktops require for updates.

If you have SQL Server, you can set up my reporting system so that you can
look at a system's history: http://www.pdxconsulting.com/sus_reporting.zip
Also, it would be really cool of someone could write a XSLT for the
IUHIST.XML and ITEM.XML files so that I can display it in a nice pretty
format in the browser. I could also then offer it on my online site... any
takers? I'm thinking about doing it, but I don't know the XSLT language yet.
