For testing to see what 1603 *really* means, change the command line in SMS to:
msiexec /i "lotus notes 8.0.1.msi" TRANSFORMS="lotus801.mst" /qn /l*v
c:\Notes8.log
After it runs, go read the log file. After it fails, the log will have a
lot of information; usually the real error is a hundred or more lines up from

 We are using SMS 2003.
We are trying to deploy Lotus Notes 8.0.1 via SMS. For the package, I use
this syntax: msiexec /i "lotus notes 8.0.1.msi" TRANSFORMS="lotus801.mst" /qn
If I login as the local admin and use this exact syntax (with the necessary
modifications) msiexec /i "\\server\folder\lotus notes 8.0.1.msi"

We are having an issue distributing XP Service Pack 3 via SMS/ITMU... about
10-20% of the clients are reporting successful, but are still at XP SP2.
PATCHINSTALL.LOG shows a Failsafe timeout 99 minutes after it starts, which
is the timeout specified in the /t switch. Should be more than enough time?

I thought that the limit was much smaller than 2000 more like 500 but yes
there is a limit.
One of the trick is to create multiple collection below one main collection
with about 490 workstations in each collection. Then advertise to the top
collection and select the included sub-collection check box.

 Hi everyone,
i'm experiencing the following problem.
We have several tools which allow us to add statically elements to a
collection
(Simviewer and makecoll command))
The tools simply create in a collection a static rule which points to a
workstation ID we define.
Basically we list all workstations ID in a txt file and we run a process

New MSI? Did you build it yourself? If you have, what I recommend is
updating the "version" of the software; and set the new MSI to upgrade the
previous version. If you have absolutely no clue what I'm talking about,
there is a course from desktopengineering.com that can help you demystify
Windows Installer for the SMS/ConfigMgr admin.

It essentially means it's waiting for either another application to finish
successfully (i.e., you used "run another program first"), or it's waiting
for a dependent condition, like "only when no user is logged in".
Sometimes the other dependent program did finish successfully, but because
of a reboot condition set incorrectly, it's still waiting for a reboot.

Can i just place the new msi in the distribution point and tell
it to run the advertisement again? Or can some one direct me to a
website that can help me with this? I am running SCCM 2007. Thanks
