i pushed out some Windows updates this lunch time like i normally do on a
monthly basis. Shortly afterwards our helpdesk was inundated with calls from
people because they had message appearing on their PCs saying that their
machine was going to shutdown in 4 minutes. not giving some of them time to
save their work, and in some situations loosing a many hours work due to
being in the middle of data collection.

i followed the same process that i do everytime, yet for some reason this
message appeared on peoples desktops. i am now getting loads of grief off
directors and managers to find a solution to the problem.

please help

Chris,

check the patch install log files on a client that has rebooted, it will say
in there:
PARAMETER: Suppress Reboot for WorkStation UpdatesInstallMgr

location of log files:
C$\WINDOWS\system32\CCM\Logs

post them here if you need any help

Hi diaz

thanks for the response, i have looked at a number of machines and cannot
find any sign of this Supress Reboot paraometer that you are talking about,
could this mean that it did not pay attention to the supress reboot command,

the entry that i do have is "Grace period for optional install has expires.
Forceful reboot will be performed"

could this be to do with how we set up the package - same as always - or a
rogue update?

hi chris,

if you can post the log of one machine that didnt suppress the reboot i can
have a look.To be honsest though, i have never had a machine reboot unless
told to so i suspect that in the parameters for that patch, a reboot
condition has been met.

But post the log and i'll take a look
