I noticed on the server and my other SBS sites that in IE when http://companyweb is used you can see the URL get changed in the address bar to http://companyweb/default.aspx by (I'm assuming) SharePoint prior to the site being loaded. On the clients, this does not happen, instead the clients go right to http://companyweb/default.html which of course does not exist.
There is a DNS record for companyweb which returns the server address when pinged. I'm not sure where to go next, getting this working is all I need to finish up this install.
Thanks for any help!

you can have a problem in your name resolution configuration.
You can verify or add the companyweb server name in your WINS server.
Verify that your clients DNS configuration use the company.local DNS suffix
name
when a user type http://companyweb, windows try to reach it directly through
Wins and netbios, then he try to appends the companyweb name to the DNS
suffix name; so the result is companyweb.company.local;
Also verify that each client use your DNS Server as the first DNS server in
your TCP/IP config.
Also you can have a proxy configured in IE; disable it for your tests.
good luck

This has been put there - despite the company web not being part of WSS
functions common to all implementations and therefore NOT within the scope
of this newsgroup - in order to try to solve most visiting SBS users'
companyweb problems.
If an answer is not there, you should really be posting to the SBS newsgroup
(and coming here when you have WSS problems that are not specific to the SBS
2003 implementation)
