I have just put two new laptops running Windows Vista Business Edition on to
my network and can no longer open a list with Windows Explorer - I get the
error 'Your client does not support opening this list with Windows
Explorer.'
A search points me to KB Article 923906 which states this can happen with
IE6 and a path > 100 characters; neither of which are the case here;
My site is WSS 3.0 with SP1
The laptops have Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise Edition
Both systems are fully up to date with all critical and optional updates
from Windows Update
An older Windows XP machine with the same software works just fine
Any suggestions gratefully received

Putting it in the Intranet zone is the equivalent setting for IE7/Vista
(i.e. the setting used that usually stops the system continually asking
users to login)

By removing my site from the Trusted Zone I was able to open a list in
Explorer Mode
Install Vista SP 1; now I can't
Not only that but I cannot open a list in a Datasheet unless I turn of IE
Protected Mode;
HELP Please

Firstly the Explorer view
I found this in a comment on
http://blogs.msdn.com/sharepoint/archive/2008/01/18/known-issue-office-2007-on-windows-vista-prompts-for-user-credentials-when-opening-documents-in-a-sharepoint-2007-site.aspx
by Matt Welykholowa - unfortunatly it is buried in the midst of a long list
of comments but it does work.
From windows Explorer, right click on Computer and choose Add a network
location.
Enter the SharePoint URL; http://[ServerName:Port]
Add your SharePoint site to the Trusted Zone - this is contrary to previous
advice but the fix does not work in the Intranet zone
My last update was that I could not use the Datasheet view
This is due to Vista's version of IE7 having Protected Mode - turn it off
and you can use the Datasheet view but I like the idea of more protection.
Again, once the site is in the Trusted Zone where Protected Mode is off by
default you will be able to use the Datasheet view.
If anyone has a better way of doing it please comment

Open IIS Manager and check if you have WebDAV set to Prohibited in Web
Service Extensions
Setting it to Allowed resolves the issues I was getting - I can now open in
Datasheet and Windows Explorer from within the Intranet Zone.
Anyone know of any gotcha's?

We're only grateful for answers and if they come five minutes later from
the person who posted the question (and how often do you slave for 4
hours trying to solve something; then post to the newsgroups and it all
suddenly clicks?!), who cares.
Thanks for the additional info - although I doubt if "workaround is the
right word :)
