Jim
I've just recently noticed IE crash when I tried to design the page on a
couple of computers in the last few days.
You have to contact microsoft for the hotfix - I installed it and the
problem went away.

They will give you the password to extract this file.
I am using IE 6 sp2
Not sure if this fixes both SPS and WSS issues of this nature.

Managed to get the update file and password from MSFT. Installed the
update, but it didn't solve the problem. I checked the file version
that is supposed to have been installed, and it looks like it may not
be right. The KB923996 article calls for mshtml.dll 6.0.2900.2975, but
the file in my windows/system32 directory is 6.0.2900.2963. The
registry shows that the KB923996 hot fix is installed.
Any ideas why there's a mismatch? I also note that the KB article
refers to the installer as WindowsXP-kb923996-x86-enu.exe but the file
provided by MSFT is WindowsXP-kb923996-v2-x86-enu.exe - apparently a
newer version.
Any suggestions here?
Thanks,
Jim
I just wanted to add my experience with this. We have two Windows 2003
servers running Sharepoint, and the clients are XP Pro. I installed
the hotfix for Windows 2003 on the servers, and it fixed the problem on
the servers. However, when running Sharepoint from the client the
problem persisted. I called Microsoft again and they sent me a hot fix
for Windows XP. After installing that on the clients and rebooting, my
clients are working beautifully as well.
By the way, this is a hotfix for Windows, NOT for Sharepoint.
Hope that helps others!
