Hello,

Is there any way to add active directory security groups to the local
Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 local ones? I have tried this so far with no
success and can see that other people have also had issues....

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I cant answer your question but I was rather hoping that you could help me.
I am trying to add AD groups to WSS but the problem is that I cannot find any
AD groups when searching for them in WSS. I can easily find users but not
groups. Its Security groups from AD i want to add.

I am currenlty using the ActiveDirectoryMembership provider , I believe this
is the problem? But if I want to add groups , then how to do so. I hope you
can shed some light on this!

Best Regards,

Saqib

you can't use Windows NT / AD groups in WSS, you can just only add users, to
use groups you have to use the SharePoint ones.

As far as I know, with WSS3 it works. You have to add the AD groups
into Sharepoint groups, and the users should be able to access
Sharepoint sites. There might be just some problems with custom code
etc.
IF you do not see AD groups from Sharepoint, there is something else
wrong, but I tested it and it seems to be working. Do not forget to
add a group with Read permissions to the root site, that group should
contain all users - just for sure.
