Hi, everybody.
We are facing erros while searching in a setup where SPS and SQL Server are
running in different servers.
When we perform a search the following error occurs:
Your search encountered an error. If the problem persists, contact the
portal site administrator.
When we try to manage search scopes, or perform any search-related activity
in the Portal Administration, we get this error:
The gatherer index was not initialized. The content index must be remounted.
If the index is still not initialized, remove it.
The following two events appear in the application log:
1)
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Microsoft SharePointPS Search Service
Event Category: Gatherer

2)

We verified every user name and password, and they are OK.
Oh yes, the setup where all this is occuring is, of course, in the client's
demo.
Help would be very much appreciated.

Server Configuration | Configure Server Farm Account Settings (this is what
we call the creds page).
Re-enter the Configuration Database Administration Account and Default
Content Access Account information here (even if you're sure you entered
them correctly).

What I had to eventually do is chane the Database Admin Accont and the
Content Access Account, and then change it back.
That worked.
Please note, in the process of changing SharePoint will complain that
certain databases are locked. Here I chose to release the locks and
continue.
