It doesn't matter that you forgot this because as you know Windows
Server 2008 is still in Beta (RC status to be exact) and therefore using
MOSS 2007 with it is not supported in the public newsgroups.

Try doing exactly the same thing with MOSS 2007 running on a Windows
Server *2003* and if you get the same problem *then* ask us here.

Otherwise please use beta newsgroups for Windows Server 2008 for any
problems you have when using that Beta software.

Mike Walsh,

Stop being a newsgroup nazi. You do not own the microsoft public
newsgroups. You are creating lots useless noise on the net. I see
people in need, asking questions, then see they got a reply, check it
out to see if they solved their problem, and its just Mike Walsh again
- flaming someone looking for help.

I don't care that people post to mulitple groups at once. Good for
them. I don't care that people ask for help installing products on
beta OS's. More power to them.

Where does it say that public newsgroups can only be used for non-beta
support?

How silly is your logic that if the OS is beta, you have to ask for
support for an application in the OS beta newsgroup? But then once the
OS is release, you are supposed to ask for support in the application
newsgroup? Nonsense... The newsgroup is for support of the application
regardless if you are trying to install it on Retail, Beta, RC,
Windows, UNIX, whatever.

Hmm even funnier is that Microsoft instructs people to post questions
about Server 2008 BETA to the standard public newsgroup. Go yell at
Microsoft Mike Walsh! Tell them they are violating your rules!

Is this guide helpful? Does the Windows Server 2008 product
documentation meet your needs? Let us know how we're doing:
· Post to our newsgroup:
microsoft.public.windows.server.documentation
---

Often in your posts, when you think you know of a better newsgroup for
the post, you tell the person which newsgroup to post to. Where are
these beta newsgroups that you keep telling people to post to? Hmmm
that's funny... I don't see any.

Even when someone asked you multiple times where the beta newsgroups
are that you are directing them to, you avoided their question:
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.sharepoint.general/browse_thread/thread/96f14137bf075fcf/e356ef9b1ad5016e?lnk=st&q=%22beta+newsgroup%22#e356ef9b1ad5016e

You do provide a lot of useful info when you choose to help... Why not
stop the newsgroup nazi posts, direct that energy into getting some
more real life work done, and effectively raise your information to
noise ratio? Sounds like a win-win situation to me.

People hiding their identity behind a German name "Neufusion" should
think very hard before calling anyone a Nazi.

so, is there any solution for this error?

As I wrote already in this thread, you are getting this problem when
installing in a Beta product. As Neufusion has pointed out in this
thread the Office Server 2008 are asking that error reports for that
Beta product get sent to a *Server* newsgroup.

It is in any case too early (one date later only) to remind us of your
question - even if you were using Windows Server 2003.

Why don't you spend some time trying this in the supported environment
(Win Server 2003) and then come back here if you are still having the
same problem there.

Thanks for your reply,

I am not rushing anyone to answer me so quickly.

but i saw you and Neufusion arguing, and wouldn't want the subject to be
change from original.

also, you didn't provide me with clear answer where to go; since you mention
in your first reply to go to "beta newsgroup" that I don't see it anywhere,
and this time you're telling me to go "server" newsgroup and it doesn't have
win server 2008

I know the 2008 still beta, that why I asked in the newsgroup, other that I
would be going to talk with MS support directly with my error.
also, this should be a managed newsgroup as mentioned when I bought my
subscription, not a public newsgroup. if that the case I could go to free
Microsoft newsgroup without wasting my time making the subscription.

for my q. I am not asking to a hotfix or ultimate solution. but i am very
sure that someone tried installing moss 2k7 in win 2k8, and i didn't found
anything about my problem when searching internet, that is it's very possible
moss can be running in 2k8 rc0.
so i think there is at least a workaround from this error.

Thanks again for your help

If you posted this as a managed newsgroup question, then you are 100%
correct. You should have received a reply from the managed newsgroup
people within 24 hours (provided the question was posted during the week
as it was).

The usual reason for the managed newsgroup people not responding to
questions sent to them is that the question was sent to the newsgroup
using a name / address different to that for which you signed up to
managed newsgroups.

Please check the managed newsgroups site for details of how to post a
managed newsgroup question !

(They only read and reply to questions that their system tells them are
managed newsgroup questions.)

Note that normal newsgroup members (such as myself) can not tell the
difference between a managed newsgroup message and a normal one - they
all look the same - until that is a Chinese person from the managed
newsgroup support team answers it !!

I hope this helps more than earlier "answers".

It's probably going to be necessary for you to start a new thread using
a different name (= one that is recognized by the managed newsgroup
system - if I remember right you tell them your real e-mail address but
you then use a different name and fake e-mail address here)

Thanks Mike for explaining this to me. :)
i think i'll stick with this thread a bit longer, then i'll make a new q.

btw, did you try to install moss 2k7 in win 2k8? or you're focusing in the
wss only.

I've actually installed WSS 3.0 in an earlier Beta of Windows Server
2008 (as it was there).

That was for fun. MOSS is a more serious appl. and I'm holding back
until <grin> Windows Server 2008 is in production.

Btw the managed newsgroup support comes from Shanghai so the working
week is still Mon-Fri but it's Shanghai time which is fairly early in
the day (looking at this from a worldwide perspective). People posting
on Friday during their own day (or even late on Thursday their own time)
might therefore have to wait until Monday for a response.

i just found my solution in
http://blog.davidohara.net/2007/09/12/installation-issues-with-sharepoint-and-windows-2008/

you should go from command prompt to this folder >>
C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\12\BIN

then run the command
C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\12\BIN>
STSADM.EXE -o provisionservice -action start -servicetype
"Microsoft.Office.Excel.Server.ExcelServerSharedWebService,
Microsoft.Office.Excel.Server, Version = 12.0.0.0, Culture = neutral,
PublicKeyToken = 71e9bce111e9429c"

appreciate all the help

"People hiding their identity behind a German name "Neufusion" should

Mike, Are you implying that all germans are Nazi's? Nice...

I am not German and I'm not hiding my identity. My name is right in my
email address.

Nice way to side-step the questions though.

Where does it say that public newsgroups can only be used for non-
beta
support?

Where are these beta newsgroups that you keep telling people to post
to?

"As Neufusion has pointed out in this thread the Office Server 2008

are asking that error reports for that Beta product get sent to a
*Server* newsgroup"

Reading comprehension FTW... Microsoft is directing WINDOWS Server
2008 BETA questions to the standard non-beta newsgroup. They are
violating the MIKE WALSH terms of use of the microsoft public
newsgroups. Sick em Mike!

Mike, Are you saying all Germans are nazis? Wow you are piece of work.

Well I'm not German, and I'm not hiding my identity. My name is right
in my email.

Nice way to avoid the questions though, Mike.
