SPS2003 WSS 2.0 indexation problem

Since few day we have an indexation issue with our sharepoint 2003 SP3
portal (small farm, 1 server for portal another one for sql db)
SPS2003 stopped to index my wss site (only one doc lib in this site but more
than 980000 document in this doc lib)
After 900000 indexed the index engine stopped with an error message in the
log :
The address could not be found, (0x80040D7B - Document filtering cannot be
completed because the document server did not respond within the specified
timeout. Try crawling the server later, or increase the timeout values. )
The indexed document counter is now blocked to 900000 and no way to continue
to index the wss site.
The current indexation is incrementale of course.
It's really a critical issue for us.
Any help would grealty appreciate.
