Is there an easy way to return the default navigation to a customized sharepoint site?

One of my clients made lots of changes to the quick launch navigation
(left hand menu) for many of their sites. They tried two or 3 freeware
components, and 1 or two "demo" versions of commercial products, and 1
or 2 for fee products.

Now they are looking to do a migration to MOSS (from SPS2003/wss2).
These components cause the new pages to fail. I can remove the
components, then they are stuck with no navigation. I can also revert
to the template, but they are not satisfied with the result. I found
the link below, which should work, but was hoping there is an easy way
to include a refrence to the default navigator component.
