It appears that installing any Office 2007 product (Powerpoint, OneNote etc.)
results in the Datasheet functionality breaking - you start getting the
message "
The list cannot be displayed in Datasheet view for one or more of the
following reasons: A datasheet component compatible with Windows SharePoint
Services is not installed, your browser does not support ActiveX controls, or
support for ActiveX controls is disabled. " whenever you selet "Edit in
Datasheet" for a list.

Has anyone discovered a workaround? To date all i've figured out is
uninstalling the 2007 update fixes it.

Thanks,
Randal

Based on the description of the problem, I am assuming you are running Office
2007 on SharePoint 2003 (or WSS 2.0).

I got around this problem by installing the Office 2003 Web Components.

Which server environment do you have installed for SharePoint? 2003 or 2007?
The reason I ask is SharePoint 2003 used Excel components to render the
datasheet. However, SharePoint 2007 uses Access.

I think my issue is based in this. We have users running Office 2003 with
Project Pro 2007. When VBA is disabled in Project Pro, "Edit in Datasheet"
works fine, but other features of Project Pro don't work. When VBA is
enabled, the other features work fine, but "Edit in Datasheet" fails.
Environment is mixed with IE6 and IE7 PCs, connecting to SharePoint 2007.
Systems running the entire Office 2007 suite have no problem. Systems with
only Office 2003 programs have no problem. it's only when there is a mix,
that there is an issue
