Gantt Bar truncated

Quick search ends in no joy....

I had a fellow scheduler drop buy with a question. He has inherited a
Project (2003) file. The task bars in the gantt chart view do not
reflect the "start" and "finish" dates in the start and finish column.
When the dates are added to each end of the bar in the gantt chart view,
the task bar extends from the start date but does not stretch all the
way out the planned finish date. I did a cursory view of the file on my
way out and there was nothing readily apparent that would be driving
this condition.

I'm new to MS Project (6 months), 10 years OPP, P3. I am still
discovering some "interesting" things in this software package. I think
I had something similar happen to me in Artemis where the base-lined
resources were taking over the gantt bar.

Do any of my fellow techarena lurkers have any input before I start my
deep dive?

Thanks.

Hi,

Make sure the view is Gantt Chart, not Tracking Gantt or any other.
Go to Format, Bar Styles
The first line normally says "Task". What is written in the columns "From"
and "To"?
If it is "Start" and Finish" teh problem is the other way around, your
columns labeled "Start" and "Finish" do not reflect the fields "Start" and
"Finish".

Hope this helps,

I guess the first thing I would do is determine the date at which the
bar stops, and then see how that date matches up with other dates
associated with that task. Something is "stopping" the computer from
plotting bar. What is it?

The next thing I would do is right mouse click on the Gantt Chart and
pick "bar styles". Look at the "from" and "to" columns to see exactly
how you have told Project to print the task bars. It uses pull down
selectors and if you don't like what's been set, change it to something
else. The "normal" setting fo a "task" is the field [Finish].
