Subject: OLAP Cube generation
Hi,

We've just installed Project Server 2003 (single machine setup) in the
following setup:

Windows Server 2003 SP1
SQL Server 2000
SQL Server SP4
Analysis Server
Analysis Server SP4
Project Server 2003
Project Server SP1
Project Server MUI Dutch
Project Server MUI SP2

All works fine except the cube generation always fails. I've checked the
viewdrop folder settings, the OLAP administrator rights, the COM+ identity
and they are all correct.

We've synced 6 users from the AD which had some periods and comma's so I
removed those just in case but this didn't help either. I've changed the
setting to a number of different ranges but that doesn't help.

Here are the errors from the event log:

My guess is that the bit "Invalid procedure call or argument" is the actual
error but what is causing it I cannot see.
Could we have missed a step somewhere in a servicepack?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jonathan:

The most likely cause is permissions for the account running under COM+ To
make this determination, please logon to your system at the server console
using a domain admin account and use the Cube build page to build now. Let
us know what happens.

Hi Gary,

We tried logging on with a domain admin and a local admin, it didn't help.
We also scheduled the cube build with a domain admin and a local admin, both
members of the OLAP admin. group, but this didn't help either.

Any other ideas that we could try?

Thanks, Jonathan

Jonathan:

My next concern would be the fact that you say you have Project Server SP1
installed with a MUI pack for SP2. If we can't find a logical authentication
issue, then the 0x5 errors might indicate that the system is crashing on the
data.

Gary,

Is it incorrect to install the MUI SP2 with Project Server SP1? Are there
any steps we can take to debug or test where the error is occuring? Or is the
only possible resolution now to contact MS Support?

Thanks, Jonathan

Jonathan:

You can turn on SQL profiler and force a cube build. This should show you
where it's failing, if it's failing in SQL.

Hi Gary,

Whatever it was, SP2a fixed it. I'm glad it was released, it was in the nick
of time for us :)
