I don't know myself, but there are a LOT of people doing this.

Go to www.google.com and search on:

That'll keep you reading for weeks. <g>

The info at the above link is very useful and is a great way to handle
presentations for songs in church short of purchasing other specialized
software.

We use the templates shown at the usingpowerpointinchurch site.

Also another good piece of information is learning the linking capabilities.
http://www.powerpointbackgrounds.com/powerpointlinking.htm
This set up is good when you have a song book and you can link all the songs
together in one file (with the title slides and corresponding slide numbers
and song numbers) and then hit the song number, press enter, and it will
load the linked song file.
Did this with a bunch of Christmas songs for a sing along. People could
choose any song (by number). All I had to do was hit the number press enter
and boom the song was there- ready to sing!

There are many other specialized programs for Song presentation in church.

How can we help?

The question you asked is very general, and while we can give general help,
you may find better answers to specific questions by a little fine tuning.

Do you own a scanner and OCR software?
Does your church have a CCLI or similar copyright license?
Are you currently using PowerPoint in your services?
What is your personal level of skill with computers?
What is your church's budget for visual ministries?
Are you interested in graphics as well as text, or just text?
Does your denomination offer a web-based hymnal? A hymnal on CD?

This newsgroup can also help with the physical hardware set-ups. We can
suggest screens and projectors that we have found work well in certain
placements. We can help you to get PowerPoint to run smoother, more
reliably, and do more then you ever thought it could.

I'd be glad to offer what assistance I can. From the note, it sounds as
though you are having difficulty getting the words from the hymnal/praise
book/worship song into the computer as text. Personally, I use a flatbed
scanner, Textbridge OCR software, my own database of previously entered
songs, and a few web-sites. As a side note, I have to report the copies I
make on our CCLI license (not services, just copies). I save the files as
simple txt files (to strip all the formatting) and then convert them to word
(for editing) and import them over to PowerPoint.

If this does not answer your questions, please let us know how we can help.
B
