.bmp and .art pictures not converting!

Help!
I have saved pictures from the web onto my harddrive, and
when I go to open them it asks me what format they are
saved in, and when I click on the format it comes up with
an error message saying it was unable to convert the
image, "An error occurred while converting file.blah" or
something like that. It happens in a lot of my other
programs too, help! I need these pictures!

You can't open .bmp files with PPT. You can, however, insert a .bmp onto
a slide using Insert/Picture/From File.
