Subject: slides won't advance
Please help me figure out why my slides in my slide show
won't advance.  I have the timer set on switching every 3
seconds as well as by mouseclick.  Under slide show I
have it set to using timings, if present.  But it just
sits on the first slide.  Help!!!  Please!!!

Not that answering these questions will lead to a satisfactory
solution...

What version of PP are you using?

Do you have some kind of music or video that requires the presenter to
click it before it starts to play?

What happens if you start the slideshow with some other slide?

I am using PP from Windows XP.  I even tried deleting the
first slide and starting on the 2nd one but it just wont
advance, not even with mouse click.  Only if I right
click and then hit advance.  I clicked on play
automatically for the sound file and it does that
correctly, the slides just won't advance.  I have a
feeling I am missing one button somewhere.  Aaagh!

Beth, Windows XP is an operating system.  PowerPoint is an application that
comes with the Office Suite.  You could have PowerPoint 97, 2000, or 2002.
Click on the Help button and select "About".  What version does it say?

In your custom animation for the sound, make sure you have checked
"continue slide show." (That would be for PPT 97 or 2000. It's a little
different for PPT 2002/XP.)

http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00047.htm explains the various
settings. I suspect it's the sound file that's causing the stall.

Beth, did you ever get a helpful response?  I have exactly
the same problem.  I created the simplest possible show
(vanilla title slide and vanilla second slide, no
animation, advance on mouse click) and I have the same
problem.  The show works fine if I run it on another
computer.

I suspect your issue is different than Beth's, then, Bob. Hers was
probably related to a sound file she had added to her presentation,
while yours seems related to your particular computer system (since it
runs fine on another computer).

Try the troubleshooting steps I suggested in your other post.
