Slide finder

I encountered a problem using powerpoint 97 with Windows
XP. A normal user can't open the slide finder dialog. This
all works well logged in as administrator. Seems to look
like a rights problem.

Can Anybody help me please!!

Do you mean slide sorter view or do you mean the finder that appears
when the user goes to Insert/Slides/From File?

When the user goes to Insert/Slides/From File, nothing
happens.

Hm. I would be surprised if this is a permissions thing, but I guess it
could be. If it is, though, I sure can't find any documentation on it.
And I cannot find any documentation where this dialog box doesn't show
up, either!

Do you have any other users (who are not adminstrator) with PPT 97 on
WinXP where you could test the same function? If so, check to see if the
same thing happens there. That would help determine if it is indeed a
permissions issue.

Thkz, I will test it with different users. I allready
tried making a poweruser but this wont help.

I have tested it wwith 4 different users. The slide finder
box doesn's appear. I've also tried it under different
administrator users, where it all works fine.

Thanks for testing, Chris.

It sure sounds to me as if it's a permissions issue (as you originally
suspcected!), but I'm surprised that making the users powerusers doesn't
help. Let me see what I can find out, though. (Might take a few days.)

Hi, Chris.

Can't guarantee that this will work, but it's worth a try. Be sure to back
up the registry before trying this!

Click Start, Run, Regedt32, OK
Allow full control to users of the following keys:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0
Security - Permissions - check "Allow inheritable permissions" - Allow full
control to all users.

Editing the registry did work. The slide finder dialog
appears as it should. Thanks for your help wich I'm very
greatfull for.
