Sounds like you have Office Basic 2007 installed by the manufacturer. That
product is only available as an OEM purchase. That license will die with the
computer and can't be transferred to another machine. Is it a trial version
or did you pay extra for it?
Do you have the actual installation disk for Office Basic? The reason I ask
is that if you make the upgrade purchase and the computer has to be reloaded
you will need to be able to reinstall the Office Basic programs first to
upgrade to PowerPoint.
Microsoft has allowed the installation program for Office 2007 products to
use any Office 2007 program or suite (other than a trial version) as an
upgrade qualifier. If you have the trial currently it would be cheaper in
the long run to purchase the full retail version of Office suite that meets
your needs (Amazon.com or newegg.com or the like.) If the machine ever dies
then you would need a qualifier for the upgrade on the new machine to allow
the upgrade as the OEM version you have would no longer be any good.
Once Office 2010 comes out or a new version of MS Works comes out they would
probably not be qualifiers for the 2007 upgrade program.
Your response would be appreciated and more guidance could be given.
I gave the Office Basic, and I did pay extra for it when I got my new
laptop. I will have to seeif I have the disk...thanks for your response.

OK, with Office Basic as a purchase of the OEM it may have been a Medialess
License Kit install. When you look at the certificate of authenticity
(where the license key is located) look in the lower right hand corner. If
it has the letters MLK there then you can possibly purchase a disk from
Microsoft (if this is the case post back for directions to obtain.) If it
says OEM then you would have to get the disk from the OEM supplier
(manufacturer of the PC) as Microsoft does not provide any support for OEM
products. Of course the installation may be included as part of the rebuild
media that the computer manufacturer supplied.
