powerpoint picture will not insert - program closes

When I try to insert a picture into powerpoint 2003, immediately a box pops
up saying that it has encountered a problem and needs to close. My only 2
options are to click "Send Error Report" or "Don't send." Then the
powerpoint program closes and reopens with a new blank slide.

Inserting text only seems to work.

I have tried to "repair" Microsoft Office through the control panel/Add
Remove and the repair click. Still the same result.

I have completely uninstalled the whole Microsoft Office Small Business
Edition and reinstalled it. Still the same result.

Any ideas?
