I have an iPAQ hx2495; however, I cannot load/install the newly updated
office modules (i.e. the ones that support the new office formats)
because it tells me my WM5 version is too old. Which I think is silly...

Anyone out there figured out a way/hack to install this even if it says
it is too old?

Unfortunately, it's illegal to try to "hack" the XDA-Devs-based CAB (if it's
what you want to install on your device) as you haven't paid for the WM6
license. Moreover, it's indeed incompatible with WM5.

I think the OP is referring to Moblile Office 6.1. I have WM5 and installed
this update (as you know--this is the one that allows support for Office
2007 files). You had to already have a build number for WM5 beyond a certain
number (don't recall what). Maybe he can update WM5 somehow? Mine was
updated by Verizon once (not sure if build number actually changed, though).
I had to flash the ROM and update a bunch of stuff so, for example, WiFi and
EVDO would work at the same time. Maybe HP has an update to WM5 somewhere
that will allow Mobile Office 6.1.
Seems as though your reponse referred to WM6, which is not what I got out of
the orignal question.

Werner,

I have WM5 and the 'update' I downloaded I got directly from MS
Downloads. As 'Prilosec' mentioned, I already have Office Mobile on my
WM5 iPAQ and this update was simply to provide .DOCX support to that.
However, it seems to be targeted for a certain level of ROM support
(for WM5) and won't install. I doubt that HP is going to provide
another update for the ROM, and I am only a few levels below what is
called for in the office update. I can't believe it won't work on my
iPAQ - probably just a hardcoded 'recommended' level needed in the cab.
That is why I asked about a 'hack' - not illegal (since I already have
mobile Office and this is an update for WM5) - I just feel there should
be a way to install it on my machine.
