Have you tried the Sound API in WM6?
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb431644.aspx

According to MSDN: What's New for Developers in WM6
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb278115.aspx)
"The new sound API gives you the ability to play a variety of sound formats
from within your Windows Mobile 6 application including MID, WMA, MP3, and
WAV"

I have an old article on accessing the sound api through .NETCF if you would
find that useful
