Activesync 3.8 is deleting some contacts and calendar items, and mass
duplicating others. This does not happen with all items. I have a
Verizon xv 6600, with Pcoket PC 2003 (ROM just updated), was syncing with
two desktops, but have changed that to one (no help), and I push email only
via the cellular connection.

I have heard there was a Windows update for the desktop OS that could be
related to the problem.

Any help, thoughts, or commiseration will be greatly appreciated. My Dad
always told me don't let the little things get to you, but this little
bugger is driving me nuts!

I am having a similar problem and hoping there is a solution. I have a Dell
Axim x51v Pocket PC which was loaded with Windows CE 5.0 when I purchased it
in November. My laptop is a Dell (older one) loaded with Windows XP SP2 and
Outlook 2003.

When I "synced" the two just before Christmas for the first time in a month,
after extensive modifying of Contacts on the Axim for my Christmas lists, I
discovered that Active Sync had just wiped out virtually all of my Contacts
on the Axim. After crying from the shock of losing ALL of my Christmas
lists, I searched my PC and was able to find an older Palm Pilot listing file
(even though the Palm Pilot no longer works), loaded the Palm Pilot sync
software and found that file had much of my Christmas lists from previous
years and proceeded to try to restore everything.

I found there is an Option on Active Sync that allows, when there is a
"conflict" between Contacts on PC and Pocket PC, either to default to using
(and overwriting) the PC Contact, or to using (and overwriting) the Pocket PC
Contact. I had it set to PC, since this was my primary input device. Since
all the Xmas lists were updated on the Pocket PC, it promptly overwrote ALL
of them with the stuff on the laptop PC. This is a rather strange way of
SYNCING, if you ask me. I thought Syncing meant COMBINE the two, not DELETE
one or the other. There was no way to choose create a Duplicate Contact, if
there is a conflict, at least not that I could find.

At this point, I'm rather afraid to use Active Sync, because I've made
changes both to the PC Contacts (mostly for emails) and to the Pocket PC
Contacts (mostly for addresses and phone numbers), and there is no way that I
can find to save both, nor to Backup the Pocket PC stuff without Deleting
some of the PC data (I currently have that option set to use the Axim Pocket
PC as the default in case of a conflict).

I'm searching the Microsoft KB and this forum, in the hopes that there is a
solution that I'm missing. I'm a tadbit unhappy with the lack of
documentation on Microsoft Mobile CE 5.0 Operating System. I went to B&N
hoping to find a book, with no success either. Seems to be simply Hit or
Miss with how it works, I guess.

I am having a very similar experience. Outlook 2003, Dell Axim 51v, windows
Mobile 5, Activesync 4.1 I have made edits to both contacts and appointments
on my PPC, only to find them wiped out by the sync, and overwritten with
what is on my Desktop.

(setting is for Desktop to overwrite handheld IF THERE IS A CONFLICT. In my
opinion, having a more recent edit on the handheld is not a conflict! (Does
anybody from Microsoft read this list?) Regards Ron

Just had the same problem with synching contacts on new Windows Mobile 5
(using Active Synch 4.1, Outlook 2002 on XP and Fujitsu Siemens Pocket LOOX
520 handheld). I modify a contact on Windows PC and on handheld
independently. If I then synch (using Active Sync 4.1) the contact on
handheld is REPLACED! with a contact from PC. In Active Synch settings you
can only set to replace contact from PC or from handheld IF THERE IS A
CONFLICT ?? It seems that either Windows Mobile 5 or/and Active Synch 4.1
can not handle CONFLICTS i.e. items modified on both devices independently.
This is a major, major flaw and I am going back to Pocket PC 3SE to avoid
this problem. Also I found that in WM5 you can not synch by categories like
you could with Active Synch 3.8. So if you are synching your handheld on
home PC and work PC you can not synch items SELECTIVELY (i.e. on work PC
only synch items in Business category and not Private category). You are
forced to synch all contacts on every machine. I can't understand why a new
operating system (Windows Mobile 5) and/or Active Synch 4.1 gives you less
options than the old one. Non handling of CONFLICTS is a reason enough not
to upgrade to this system.
I just hope that I am wrong here.
Any feedback please...
