Subject: Re: ActiveSync 4 Problem
Hi Markie,

I have yet to encounter this kind of error message.  You could try running
the Scanpst utility to check for any corruption in the PST file (the file
that stores your Outlook data).  Search for scanpst.exe on your computer.

Alternatively, uncheck all options under Tools -> Options and then attempt
to sync.  Check if the error message is generated.  Proceed to sync only one
information type at a time.  See if that helps narrow down your cause.

AS 4.0 is not going to give you any added functionality for devices that run
on OS's prior to Windows Mobile 2005.  If you intend to revert back to a
previous version then ---

1.  Uninstall ActiveSync 4.0.
2.  Open File Explorer, navigate to the System32 directory in your Windows
directory, and then manually delete the dynamic-link library Rapi.dll.
3.  Reinstall the previous version of ActiveSync.

Good luck !!

I need to use AS 4 , so need to get it working, i have unchecked as
suggested , so.... notes work always , if i add either mail, calender
or tasks it fails with the message i posted before.

What do they have in common that notes syncing does not ???

85010014 is internal server (here is your desktop activesync) error. Try
take a look at %tmp%\wceslog.log and see if you can find any clue.

could it be that activesync 4 does not allow for remote sync ?  It only
allows for local, (wired), bluetooth, or IR sync, no network sync, no wifi
sync in activsync 4

Subject: Re: ActiveSync 4 Problem
Not sure your exact configuration so I make some guess. You mentioned you
use wireless network to sync in your office. I assume you sync with Exchange
server directly since activesync4.0 doesn't support remote desktop sync. At
home I assume you are trying to sync with your desktop outlook since you
mentioned sync offline. Since you also mentioned VPN to office, I guess your
home outlook is connected to Exchange backend. If my assumptions are all
true, Window Mobile 5.0/ActiveSync 4.0 doesn't support sync the same data
type (e.g. contacts) to both Exchange and an Outlook profile with Exchange
backend. UI should prevents you from doing that. Not sure how you bypass the
UI.

Subject: Re: ActiveSync 4 Problem
my laptop is on a wireless network in the office & activesync is
through outlook , i.e. not directly to the exchange server. When i am
in the office it works perfectly, When i come home i am either
disconnected and running from local ost file or connected through VPN ,
neither of these scenarios work. I never connect directly to the
exchange server.

Hope that helps clarify my scenario.

Mark

If your Outlook is in cached mode, and disconnected, and you create a
partnership and sync for the first time, it will fail the way in the log you
posted. If you are syncing with the same laptop, try to create partnership
and sync at least once in your office. Otherwise, try connect your home
outlook via VPN, set your outlook to offline mode then disconnect, and try
sync again. Once you can sync you are set.

excellent this seems to have fixed the syncing problem , so thats
really cool , thanks.

The only problem i have now is that while connected with VPN ActiveSync
will not connect , the green icon spins around and around and no
connection is made, i am guessing thats because the requests are being
routed through the VPN or something.

If i close the VPN and reconnect it works fine, does anybody have any
ideas how to get around this , it was never an issue with 3.8
