I searched this group but could not find an answer to the following
problem:

I have a WM5 device that is synced to a PC at work. I would like to
also sync this device with an Exchange Server. The PC is on the work
LAN and the Exch Server is on the Internet.

I used to have a WM2003SE device before, and (with older versions of
ActiveSync) I used to be able to keep the work PC and Exch Server in
Sync.

WM5 and ActiveSync 4.2 wont allow this anymore, and I cannot sync 1
Exch Server and 1 Desktop together anymore.

Anyone know a way around this? I am begging for an answer cos it is
driving me insane!

Thanks,

- Chris

Hi,
Are you synchronizing the PC with Exchange? Which connection is failing -
the PC or the Exchange server sync?

Hi Chris -
None of the connections are failing - they all work... individually.
What I cannot achieve is to use the wm5 device to sync the work PC with
the home Exchange server.

If I, for example, select "contacts" to be synced with the work PC,
then I cannot then select "contacts" to be synced with the home
Exchange server - ActiveSync simply will not allow it.

I am trying to sync this way because the home Exchange serve has push
mail, and I would like to be able to have contacts stored on this
server so that i can have access to them while on the move.

Do you know of a workaround for this? Any input would be very
appreciated! (i am working on a solution with IMAP4 IDLE - will post if
i get it to work).

change anything?

Hi,
Yes it does. Microsoft setup the WM5 devices to not merge the data between 2
Exchange servers.

I read in your FAQs though that you could change a registry entry to
allow cross polination bewteen two exchange connected PCs.

Changed the entry as per your FAQ, but still no joy. Any clues? if i am
stuck with this, it would really poison my life and would likely ditch
WM5 for that reason alone! (I need my contacts at work, but cannot
connect to that exchange from outside, and i also need my contacts on
OWA, hence the second, external, Exchange. Aaaaaarrrghhh! Help! Anyone!
Please!

SOLVED ! ! !

Chris: thanks to your FAQ, I got on the right track and chnaged the
cross pollination entry in the device's registry. What was missing
though, was the fact that you then needed to config the syncing on the
device, and NOT on the PC's activesync.

If you tried configuring a second exchange server (or PC connected to
an exchange server) from the PC, it would STILL tell you that you
cannot sync two servers. But if you do EXACTLY the same thing on the
device it workd like a charm!

Here is the registry entry that needs to be there for this to work
(found this on your website):

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you want to sync your Pocket PC or Smartphone with 2 PCs with
Outlook and the 2 PCs are both synchronizing with different Exchange
servers, you need to use a registry editor on the mobile device and set
the following key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\EnableNonLocalCrossPollination]
= (DWORD) 1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
