on some emails in his sent items folder he is able to see the receipients names,
on others he can not. why would you not be able to see the receipients in some
emails but not in others? bcc is not shown in the preview pane. open the message

Viewing BCC field in sent items?
I've got several messages that I sent using the BCC feature. I know you can only
view the BCC recipients if the message is in the "Sent Items" folder - but some
of the messages there still don't show the BCC field and the "View / BCC field"
