I have a mailing list of about 48 people where I send a Word document (55 kb)
as an attachment. The document was created in Word 2003 although I am now
using Office 2007. Some of the recipients receive the attachment, others do
not. There doesn't appear to be a common denominator (some using the same
service provider receive the attachment - others do not). One recipient sent
the following message back to me: "Sorry but no attachment again. When I
right click on your message and select 'properties', 'details' and then
'message source' and scroll down it says 'X-MS-has attach: Yes'. So it thinks
it has an attachment but it didn't arrive".
I have tried sending emails with the attachment individually but it is still
not received on the other end.
Any suggestions?

Is it possible those recipients who don't receive the attachments are not
Outlook users? If that is the case, then perhaps you are using Outlook's
default format Rich Text. If this is correct, change your format to HTML or
plain text and the issue will likely resolve itself.

Rich Text format is specific to Microsoft Outlook. Non-Outlook email clients
have difficulty with this particular format, some are unable to read it and
some may not receive attachments.

If the above is not the scenario you are encountering, please let me know.

Thank you for your reply. My default was already set to HTML. I changed it
to plain text and sent a new email with the same attachment, but the problem
remains. One of the recipients was able to forward my email to another email
address at another service provider and open my attachment that way. Another
recipient received the attachment when I sent an individual email to him.
Could this be a problem with the recipients' servers and not a problem at my
end? I did not have this problem before our organization switched to Outlook.

If your recipient could forward your email and receive the attachment at
another email address, then obviously the attachment was there.

I use Outlook every day, both at work and at home, and have never had an
attachment go astray without a logical explanation (such as having my
antivirus configured to actively scan incoming/outgoing emails, a third party
add in, SPAM filtering, junk mail filter, etc.).

I’ve a similar problem. This is my case:
• Attachment .xls or .doc
• Message format HTML

• Tablet pc with Outlook 2007 cache enabled (Exchange)
• PC with Outlook 2007 cache disabled

• When sending the e-mail to four recipients
o From Tablet Pc = One recipient doesn’t receive the attachment
o From PC = Works fine, no problem

• Recipient e-mail client
o X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2180

Any suggestion?

Thanks in advance!

Default format? If you're using rich text format, that could be the culprit.
As well, you can look to any third party integration with Outlook such as
antivirus, Add Ins, etc.

My default format is HTML. I'm rather confused..
All recipients can read the attachmen if I send the message from my PC. But
one of the recipients can not if I send it from my tablet.
So which one is the suspicious, my tablet or the recipient's pc? What else
should I check to solve the problem?

Internal or external address? If the latter, perhaps you have the
contact-specific setting enabled to always send in Rich Text format for that
one contact. Open the contact on the tablet and double-click the E-mail
address. If you see an "E-mail Properties" dialogue, check the "Internet
format" drop-down at the bottom.

Great! The external address had been set to RTF. First, I choose "let

contact and it worked. It'd be nice to me if I were able to choose html

The setting "Let Outlook decide..." should allow whatever you've chosen as
the default format on Tools>Options>Mail Format to apply.

I haven't changed anything in my Outlook 07, and all of a sudden a few days
ago, recipients either don't get the attachments (.doc, .jpg, .xls, .pdf) or
they get something and it's not readable. Most often the attachment appears
to be dropped. There are no common demoninators. I have a road runner
address, and the attachments are not received by those with AOL, hotmail,
yahoo, road runner, gmail, etc. I have also tried to send to just one person,
several people at a time, even to myself. I always receive and can open the
attachment. No one seems to get them, altho' it shows in my sent file the
attachment was indeed sent.

This just started happening out of the blue - can anyone help? It's started
to negatively impact my business. Thank you!

Oh, I neglected to mention that those who aren't receiving the attachment did
successfully receive some from me in the past. Their email addresses are the
same as are their servers. Truly, nothing has changed. Personally, I work

receiving attachments from others successfully who use Outlook 07, road

Well, first things first:

Log into the web based mail client for roadrunner and send yourself an email
with an attachment at a hotmail or gmail address (ie, if you have a gmail
or hotmail address, send to that, if you don't, get one and send to that)
and verify that the attachment gets there. If it doesn't, talk to RoadRunner.

If it does (and I'm going to assume it will), exit out of Outlook. Load
up task manager (Control-Shift-Escape) and verify that outlook.exe is not
on the processes list. If it is, give it a few minutes, check again. If
it still is, kill it.

Go to Start - Run - outlook /safe

Try to send yourself an attachment now. Do you get it this time?

I did as you suggested using a hotmail account and did receive the attachment
from my webmail road runner account. I then sent an attachment from my
outlook safe mode to the hotmail account, and also received it without
incident. I then closed outlook in safe mode and reopened it in normal mode
and sent an email to my hotmail account with many attachments. I received
each attachment - could my mystery attachment problem have fixed itself (like
it broke itself a few days ago)?

It's always possible. Try sending a message to someone who wasn't able to
get the attachments before and see what happens. Either way, you know that
Outlook works.
