Hi all...

I have a perplexing problem that is causing me no small amount of alarm as I
have not been able to solve it with the simple remedies I normally employ.
The problem is that, after finally taking the hints from Microsoft to heart
to install SR-1A as a "fix" for Office 2000 I now have a problem with
Publisher.

To start from the beginning, I have been using Publisher 2000 now for a year
without any significant problems but decided that the noted bug fixes that
Office Update advised for the whole Office 2000 series of programs would be
worthwhile. I proceeded to download the Service Release only to have the
download for Disk 2 interrupted by a problem with my ISP. I resumed the
download and proceeded with the install. No problems were noted and I
thought that the implementation was without fault. Unfortunately, this has
not proven to be the case, as I now find that, whilst I can start up
Publisher and get through to the beginning of a new "sheet", the program
mysteriously closes itself down, without warning and apparently without any
further ramifications than annoying me considerably. I have tried "Repair",
remove from system and reinstall, re-loading SR-1A (Disk 2), and various
other screaming tantrums without success. The problem persists.

If anybody can shed some light on this problem it would be most appreciated.

Thanks, in anticipation.

Hi Andrew,

If your CD key starts with GC6J3 then you'll need to get a different key
from MS, or if the software is an OEM copy, from the company that preinstalled it.
If not, this article may help http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q255/5/03.asp

If you're able to run a repair after completing the SR1 update of CD2 (Publisher)
then it the SR1/1a patch would seem to have been completed successfully.

Have you tested any of the CD #1 apps to see if they too shutdown?

Thanks Bob. That appears to answer my question to a tee. I do not have any
problems with the other apps. and I did check out the Publisher News site,
as suggested, and someone had the same problem, (with the same solution
being advised by another). So all in all, thanks.
