Hi

I wonder if anyone can help with this... I'm tearing my hair out now!

I am trying to connect my Xbox to my Vista PC, but the WMP Network Service
won't start up. I am getting the following error in the app log:

Service 'WMPNetworkSvc' did not start correctly because
CoCreateInstance(WindowsMediaPlayer) encountered error '0x80004002'. If
possible, reinstall Windows Media Player.

It suggests that I reinstall but I am lead to understand that you can't
uninstall WMP from vista and I can't install the XP version of WMP 11 over
the top since there is a version mis-mastch (the xp version is older).

Any pointers would be really appreciated.

Cheers
Carl

Does Windows Media Player itself work?

I'm having the same problem, and yes, WMP itself does work fine...

If it helps any, I also have the Zune software and IE8 Beta 2 installed
(either could cause the problem I assume)

The same exact "CoCreateInstance" error?

I too have the same error and have not found a fix.

The event viewer error test is:

Service 'WMPNetworkSvc' did not start correctly because
CoCreateInstance(WindowsMediaPlayer) encountered error '0x80004002'. If
possible, reinstall Windows Media Player.

Of course this is on Vista, so I'm not sure how I can reinstall WMP.
It's also unclear what access is being denied to.

The error detail is:

Hello I have exactly the same problem :

Service 'WMPNetworkSvc' did not start correctly because
CoCreateInstance(WindowsMediaPlayer) encountered error '0x80004002'. If
possible, reinstall Windows Media Player.

But how to reinstall (or repair) WMP11 on Vista.

Thanks in advance for help

Luc

Hello

I have found a solution in order to make the service starting.

Change the account use to start the service. If I put Administrator account
the service start. If I put back Network service account, start failed.

I think Network service acount lost some right, but I don't know how to
see/change right of network service account.

If anybody have idea ...
