Same problem here. Running Outlook 2003 and my mail is not getting indexed.
The search window displays "Outlook Express" next to Web, News, Images,
Desktop ...

My guess is it has something to do with the registration of the default
e-mail handler. The toolbar help says: "In addition, Desktop Search will
only index e-mail stores for your default e-mail program." Seems like it's
recognizing OE as the default e-mail program, although Outlook is set as
mail handler (IE options > Programs > e-mail).

Any ideas?

I had the same problem (Outlook 2000 on XP). It turns out that you need
Outlook installed with corporate mail support. I had just installed internet
mail support (that's all I needed) but that does not include MAPI support,
which the indexing engine uses to connect to Outlook!
Anyway, the following page shows how to enable corporate mail support:

I figured this out!! This is how I fixed this using Windows XP.

1. Right click on the Windows Start button.
2. Click Properties.
3. On Start Menu tab, click Customize.
4. On "Show on Start menu" check E-mail box and select Microsoft Office
Outlook" as default.
5. Reindex desktop search.

Hi DCIFRTHS,

If you still have this problem in Outlook 2003, can you please check out the
"index my Outlook mailbox?" section in this link?

(Regarding the same problem, I had replied to your other posting too:)

One of the problems of changing outlook 2000 to workgroup instead of
internet only is that some of the rules that I have set up no longer
works! Amazing, isn't it? for example, one of the rules that I have to
file emails that I download from a certain pop server. that rule is no
longer valid in workgroup mode..... why is it that it is so difficult
when all other search tools don't have this issue?
