problem opening Money 2005 after reinstall on Windows 7

After a recent computer crash, I had to reformat my hard drive and install
windows 7. I still have my original Money 2005 install file, and was able to
reinstall the program just fine. The problem is that it won't open the money
file I've been using. It asks for my password for .NET passport, and when I
input the same password I've ALWAYS used, it says that it is incorrect. When
I click "forgot password", I am able to sign-in to my Windows Live account
and successfully change the password, but it still won't let me sign in to
the money file. If I try to sign in offline, it says it cannot verify the
password and to go online and try again. I've tried restoring backup files
and have the same problem. I've tried opening the sample.mny file, and my
version already is the updated version. I would be happy to upgrade to the
current version of money, but they are apparently no longer selling it! I
would also be happy to convert over to Quicken, but they say they can't
import a Money 2005 file.

Please help. I have YEARS of household financial data on this!

your Documents folder in Win7. Right-click the Money start icon
and select RunAsAdministrator. Click File->Open and browse to that
sample.mny file. Money 2005 will do an update. Close Money.
Reboot the computer. Then open Money and check that Help->About...
says you then have version 14.0.*.1105.

Make sure your .mny and .mbf files are in your Documents folder.
Then you should be able to File->Open or Restore your existing
files.

making a self-contained disk for reinstall of Money 2005 with the
updates in place. Be sure to do this before the end of 2011. Do
not lose the disk.

Money Plus can only handle US versions not UK or International ones.
