[I would have sworn I read some posts on this subject a while
back, but I could not find them. Sorry if this is a repeat.]

I began receiving the message in the Subject of this post a week
or so ago. Nothing had (or has) changed about the sign-in
information. I can still log in to my hotmail account using the
same email address and password that's stored in my Money file.

I tried removing the LiveID, then recreating it; didn't help. I
tried both types of repair on the file; didn't help.

I get the same message if I create a brand new Money file and
attempt to create a LiveID for it with the hotmail email account
and password, so it doesn't seem to have anything to do with my
Money data.

Anything else I should try? Do I need to create a new hotmail
account and password?

Change your Windows 'user' account and try to log in again. Some people
have reported that something in the IE has become corrupted. If this works
you will need to start undoing the add-ins and options in IE.

I was having the same problem last couple of weeks on a brand new Money
file. I knew my ID & password were correct but they just did not work.

I suspect the problem was on the Office Live site because I could log into
my Live mail account but not the Live Home. I finally was able to log into
both late last night. I would just keep trying.

Yes, with a new Windows user, my hotmail email address and
password were accepted. Thank you.

Now for the pain of trying to get IE 6 working for my normal
Windows user.

That's good news.

Start->Programs->Accessories->SystemTools->SystemRestore to create
a restore point. Then in IE6, start with
Tools->Options->Security->LocalIntranet->DefaultLevel
may be sufficient. (I know that sounds odd.) If not sufficient, you
can try the default level for the Internet zone and the TrustedSites
zone.

Alternatively to resetting the Internet zone , there is a list of
sites you could add to your Trusted sites zone.

See if things work then. If not, in IE6 do
Tools->Options->Advanced->RestoreDefaults..

If you wanted to undo these changes, you could
Start->Programs->Accessories->SystemTools->SystemRestore to restore
you computer to an earlier time using the restore point you had
created.

I had high hopes, but none of these changes allowed my existing
Windows user to establish a Live ID for my Money file.

I'm not sure how much (if any) protection I lost, so I don't
know whether to revert or not. If there are other changes I can
make to get Money back in operation, I think I'll wait to see
how those changes turn out before reverting.

Thanks.

In IE7, under IE Tools->InternetOptions->Advanced, there are two
pushbuttons to restore things to defaults. I think IE6 had one too.
Consider that/those.

You might want to try IE7. That may reset some defaults for you. I
am not sure.

If still no go, or maybe even do this first, in IE, I would go to
Tools->InternetOptions->Security->TrustedSites->Sites list and
uncheck "Require server verification... ". In the trusted sites
list I would add these (maybe starting with the last one):

moneycentral.msn.com
fdl.microsoft.com
passport.com
passport.net
login.live.com
g.msn.com
money://

IE6 does have that button and I did try click it the first time,
but it didn't have any effect.

I'd prefer to avoid IE7 if I can. I was using Money off and on
for several months without seeing this problem, so I keep
thinking that some relatively recent event must be involved.

I tried these, but no luck.

I believe that I recently accepted Symantec's offer to upgrade
Norton Internet Security; are there any known issues with NIS?

The original responder mentioned "add-ons"; are there any
add-ons known to cause problems such as mine?

I understand. If you decided to try it and then go back in XP,
Add/Remove programs can revert back to IE6 by uninstalling IE7.

Sorry to hear that.

There have been in the past, but usually in regard to installs. In
those cases, turning off Norton has been reported to be
insufficient. Uninstall Norton, install Money, and reinstall Norton
has worked for those situations. I can't say that would apply to
this situation. Plus, wouldn't NIS be across the board and not
per-user? I don't know. I know that with ZoneAlarm, some people have
identified a problem with a blocked site by putting ZoneAlarm into a
mode where it asks before blocking things rather than quietly
blocking.

While behind a NAT router, I would try booting into safe mode with
networking, and see if things work then. I expect that to cause NIS
to not start in that mode. Alternatively you could do a selective
boot to not start NIS or some other thing during, I think.

I would not know. I would not think that an add-on should affect
Microsoft Money. For regular browsing,
Start->Programs->Accessories->SystemTools->InternetExplorer(NoAddons)
could start an instance of Money without add-ons running. This leads
me to suspect that add-ons are associated with the instance than
with all instances.

It is unlikely to be a Norton issue if it works with a new user.

Probably the only realistic way to fix this would be to go to IE7. I don't
understand the reluctance. It has been around for a long time (IE8 is being
phased in), has better security features and no real downside. Don't know
if that will fix this problem but it probably will give you a better chance.
Otherwise it's swinging blindly in the dark.
