All,

As I just went through the ringer to resolve (at least temporarily) some of
these issues you might find interesting:

Install
Money Plus (2008) Premium
OS: Vista Ultimate
UAC: On
Windows Firewall: On
DEP (Data Execution Protection): Enabled (HW / AlwaysOn)

PROBLEM: Successfully installed Money 2008 (plus) however it immediately
began crashing on startup. Appears that it hasn't been properly vetted to
work properly with DEP (tsk, tsk MS).

WORK AROUND: Use advanced system settings to disable DEP for the money
executable (msmoney.exe).

PROBLEM: Crash on activation. Same problem as above, unfortunately the
work-around for the above won't work as the activation program itself creates
a temporary executable (activate_TMP.exe) on the fly that you can't point
Windows too so that you can disable DEP for it. Once again, Tsk, Tsk..

WORKAROUND: NONE - only way to handle this is to disable DEP for your
machine as a whole using bcdedit /set {current} nx AlwaysOff and then reboot
and activate. After activation you SHOULD be able to re-enable DEP (AlwaysOn
or OptIn)

PROBLEM: Activation fails to contact the activation server and indicates
that it can't access the internet.

WORKAROUND: I called this one in and they were looking into it (we
originally suspected a problem with being behind a proxy - though this has
never had any effect on any other MS product activation). Suspect someone
finally gave the activation server a kick as it started working while we were
on the phone, but if you get the same message be persistant on the phone and
they will eventually get you to the money support group who can have someone
over in the product group give the server a kick.

FRQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q. How do I know if I have DEP enabled?
A. This tool will tell you: http://www.grc.com/securable.htm

Q. Are there other executables besides msmoney.exe that MIGHT need DEP
disabled?
A. There are a host of them that are in program files\microsoft money
plus\mnycorefiles some of which you CANNOT disable DEP for. I suspect a
patch will be forthcoming to address in short order.
