After old computer crashed, I reinstalled M2005 on new computer running
windows 7. I transfered all my backup data from a portable disc.
Information is all there but when I click reports I get a message "Additional
Money Program Files are being downloaded - Money upgrade is in process you
will be notified when finished"
-- this is second day! I need help - I have a checking account with years
of data - do not use the banking or internet features. Can someone help?
I'm a little computer illiterate to say the least.

Find the sample.mny file in your install folder. That may be
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2005". Copy sample.mny file to
your Documents folder in Win7. Right-click the Money start icon
and select RunAsAdministrator. Click File->Open and browse to that
sample.mny file. Money 2005 will do an update. Close Money.
Reboot the computer. Then open Money and check that Help->About...
says you then have version 14.0.*.1105.

Make sure your .mny and .mbf files are in your Documents folder.
Then you should be able to File->Open or Restore your existing
files.

See http://money.mvps.org/faq/article/630.aspx for a method of
making a self-contained disk for reinstall of Money 2005 with the
updates in place. Be sure to do this before the end of 2011. Do
not lose the disk.

Cal, if only you had a or a $ for every time you've had to give that
response in the last year or so :-)

Hi Cal,

Not meaning to highjack the original poster's thread, but my question is closely related.

I use MS Money 2006 Deluxe and am planning to upgrade from Vista to Win7. If I follow the same updating process that you outlined to Mary P, should I also look for version 14.0.*.1105 after rebooting my computer? IF not, do you know which version I should see if the update works?

TIA, vlbb.

14.0.*.1105 is only relevant to Money 2005.

You could. Your version will not change, and will be 15.0.*.513 in
all cases. You should be able to reinstall from your install disk
after January 2011, and expect the installation to be able to read
your Money 2006 file. There may be some updates that do not involve
a version number. You could do this:

What you can do is to copy the normally hidden MnyCoreFiles folder
from a computer where the *SAME* version of Money 2006 as your
install disk was installed and updated. Keep a copy of that folder
with your Money 2006 disk. By copying over your saved copy of the
MnyCoreFiles over the MnyCoreFiles of your fresh install, the
installation will get the benefit of possible updates. Don't lose
your copy. That folder will would be at
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2006\MNYCoreFiles" in a typical
install.

There may be no real benefit. It won't hurt.

Now if you don't have a Money 2006 install disk, then other action
would be called for.
